Who and what are Palestinians Palestine was never a country as such in recent history, but a province that was part of the Ottoman Empire and taken over by France and England after WWI, France with the French Mandate of Palestine (today's Syria and Lebanon) and England with theirs (Jordan, Israel, Gaza and the West Bank). Not all Palestinians and Jews lived in Palestine, many lived all over the Arab world. At one time Jordan's population was 2 thirds Palestinian (not any more due to expulsions).
